Nurse Extern Program
Northeast Georgia Health System recognizes the transition from nursing student to professional nurse can be challenging. This is why we have created a ten-week Nurse Extern Program that is dedicated to helping nursing students begin the transition to their new careers. As a Nurse Extern you will have an opportunity to develop basic nursing skills such as physical assessment, patient teaching and communication through a combination of observation and hands on experience.
In order to allow nursing students the opportunity to focus on the area that most closely matches their interests and career goals, our Nurse Extern Program offers track options in the following areas:
- Adult Acute Care
- Critical Care
- Progressive Care
- Emergency Nursing
- Women and Children
Our Nurse Externs are paired with an experienced Registered Nurse who will serve as a preceptor and mentor to the Nurse Extern during the ten week program.
Nurse Managers for each department provide support to Nurse Externs by offering opportunities for the Nurse Extern to share details of his/her experiences in the department, ensuring objectives are being met and milestones are celebrated as they are achieved.
Nurse Externs are classified as PRN employees and are not eligible for benefits.
