The medication administration exam you will be taking is a "Basic Proficiency in Medication Administration." The test has 65 multiple-choice questions, which range from calculations to pharmacology knowledge of commonly administered medications. You will be allowed 1.5 hours to complete the exam. This exam should be taken prior to your scheduled nursing orientation date.
This study guide has been developed to assist you with being successful on the medication exam. Please review the study guide to learn what is expected of you on the exam. You will need to use other resources to extend your study such as nursing reference guides on pharmacology. There are sample questions, along with an answer key, within the study guide that will familiarize you with the test design.
Upon completion of your medication exam, your manager will be notified and you will be clear to pass medications on your unit if you begin working prior to attending your scheduled nursing orientation. If you have any questions regarding this exam or any part of nursing orientation, please contact either Christi Blackwell (extension 7719), in Educational Services. If outside the hospital, please call 770-535-3495 or e-mail Christi.Blackwell@nghs.com.
